Nocatee Expecting the Pass of Bill for an Entire Golf Cart Community
Nocatee is a Ponte Vedra community developed by The Parc Group. Although its land area is less than 5,000 acres, it is quite special as about 85% of this development is located within St. Johns County while about 15% of the development is inside Duval County.
According to David Ray, community manager of the Nocatee Community Development District, Golf carts provide Nocatee residents an efficient and eco-friendly transportation mode to the shops and amenities. You can say golf carts are part of the Nocatee lifestyle.
Obviously, Nocatee is building a “golf cart community”, creating a lifestyle, not just a place to live. However, at this moment only the 85% inside St. Johns County is “golf cart community” whereas the 15% portion within Duval County is not the case.
In order to build “an entire and complete golf cart community”, a bill designating roadways within the development as appropriate for golf cart use must be passed by the Council. Only then, Nocatee developer can construct the infrastructures necessary to accommodate golf carts within the whole community. Now The Parc Group has already drawn up the construction plan.
This bill requires the developer to post appropriate signage on streets named by the bill, including King Palm Court, Wayfare Lane, Cypress Trails Drive, and Gray Wolf Trail.
Moreover, the bill restricts the appropriate age of the driver. Besides, according to the bill, golf carts must be equipped with headlights, tail lights, brake lights and turn signals to operate on the public right-of-way after dark. The carts without these can only be used in the daytime.
According to Councilman Danny Becton, who sponsored the bill, it has been pending through committees for a while. It’s already been approved by the Neighborhoods and Community Investment, Public Health and Safety and Transportation, and the Energy and Utility committees. The Jacksonville City Council will vote on this bill at City Hall at 5 p.m. in the coming Tuesday.
As a pretty simple and straightforward bill, Nocatee residents are expecting its pass. If the bill passes, the construction of the necessary golf cart infrastructure will be completed by the end of 2017. In that case, future pathways inside Duval County will be connected to existing structures within St. Johns County.
